Here’s a list of direct links and phone numbers to 65 popular tech services. Some are harder to quit than others, forcing you to call to speak to a live person who’ll undoubtedly try to talk you out of your decision (be strong!). In those instances, I’ve listed the phone numbers directly under the service name.

For most of the others, the link under each one’s name should either lead you to a way to close your account online with a few clicks or to an email address you can use to request that your account be closed. And if you’re not sure which accounts you even have any more, here’s a handy trick to look them up.

State of Entertainment: Hollywood Must Ride the Wave of Change, Not Resist It by Peter Guber CEO of Mandalay Entertainment reprinted from LinkedIn Pulse

Once upon a time, Hollywood lived by the golden rule – he who had the gold, made the rule. Studios, networks and other gatekeepers enjoyed the keys to the kingdom for a long time and earned enormous economic success. But a funny thing happened on the way to eternal domination – the digitization and subsequent democratization of content creation and distribution which forever changed and continues to change who is holding those keys to success.

This is the current state of the filmed entertainment industry.

The walls that separated the artist from their audience have come down. Artists can now talk directly with the audience without gatekeepers, and the audience can connect directly with the artist. Both the artists and the audience can talk with each other – in real time – whenever and wherever they are. While networks and studios once enjoyed an audience of millions or hundreds of millions, it’s now an audience of 1 one hundred million times over. Each one of these people is, in fact, a niche. When they come together socially, they become a tribe. And when enough tribes come together, it’s called a hit.

These individuals and their tribes want a say in what entertainment they watch, how they watch it, what the ads are, and when they see the ads. They want to interact with both the programs and the ads, and each other. And most of all, they want to pull it rather than be pushed it. They no longer want to be passengers. They want to be participants in this storytelling mechanism.

Today, the entertainment business is no longer an evolution. It’s a full out revolution. And revolutions can be lethal. But, they can also be opportunistic. Success in this new world of constant disruption and lightning fast and three-dimensional change requires mobility, agility and sometimes, even hostility.

  • Mobility – the entertainment audience is physically mobile and is always connected. While you must leverage all of the state-of-the-art technologies for contact, connection is only earned through state-of-the-heart technology – your ability to emotionally reach them. It’s not the digital 0’s and 1’s or features of your offering, but its ooh’s and aah’s or benefits that will result in viral advocacy and sustained success. 
  • Agility – the audience is always changing. What got you “there” won’t keep you “there.” In fact, there is no “there” there. So you must be agile in responding to the shifting needs of your audience – their geography, age, desires, needs and fears. Success requires constant curiosity, active listening and iterative course correction to meet and beat the expectations of your audience, customers or patrons.
  • Hostility – you must constantly press the envelope to propel change even though you will face hostility from your team, executives, boards, media, partners and other stakeholders seeking to maintain the status quo. As your innovation or vision or art takes off, you will face hostility from your competitors who are envious of your success. And, in your efforts to sustain success, you must be hostile with yourself and ruthless in challenging your incumbency by reinventing your offering before someone else does it better and faster than you. Face it. If you’re not facing hostility, you’re not facing reality and you’ll unlikely face success.

        This isn’t the end of these changes. It’s not even the end of the beginning. It’s the beginning of the beginning. And the pace will only increase. The entertainment business, in the largest sense, has already been incredibly disrupted – look no further than the book publishing and music businesses as examples. They’ve been beaten to death by this rapid change. But, if you choose to ride the wave of change rather than resist it, the opportunity for larger audiences, deeper connections and more robust economic rewards will arise. This is not only true for the entertainment business, but for all industries facing this tsunami of technological change.

Warner Bros.: Majority of ‘Veronica Mars’ Downloads Were ‘Successful’

The Veronica Mar’s Kickstarter campaign is a perfect example of handling the business of donors. See Variety article on the download glitches to donors. This is what I like about the ordeal:
1) The download glitches were handled quickly by Warner Bros who obviously are integrated into the campaign.
2) We the public really see how Kickstarter campaigns are properly handled.
3) We the public see donor campaign follow up.
I can’t tell you how many filmmakers and musicians approach me about helping them with a Kickstarter campaign. Folks– these campaigns take work! The Veronica Mars movie may have used donor monies to produce the film, but Warner Bros’ staff is being used to handle the follow up to the campaign. In addition to the publicity (free and otherwise) the Veronica Mars movie enjoys, most campaigns are undertaken by a committee of one, maybe less than 10. The work? Doable yes, but it takes commitment. Is your campaign ready to that?

Wall Street Bonuses Soared 15% Last Year

Why is Time showing this? To breed envy, or show injustice? or perhaps to congratulate these pool of professionals. Whatever the reasons, all of us should take note. The economy is on the upswing and none of us want to be left behind. I just finished reading another article from a reputable magazine which stated that start up companies will be the way most of us forge ahead financially. Read this but let let Time fool you. This is there message to let all of us know the uptick is here and you don’t want to get left behind.

Wall Street bonuses catapulted upward in 2013, rising 15% to an average of nearly $165,000 even though firms like JPMorgan Chase and Morgan Stanley paid billions of dollars in legal and regulatory settlements.

New York securities firms will pass out $26.7 billion in cash bonuses and deferred compensation for 2013 performance, bringing the average bonus to $164,530. The increased estimate by New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli does not include stock options or deferred compensation for which taxes haven’t been withheld.

Wall Street bonuses increased in 2013 despite lower profits than the year before and expensive legal settlements.

“Wall Street navigated through some rough patches last year and had a profitable year in 2013. Securities industry employees took home significantly higher bonuses on average,” Mr. DiNapoli said. “Although profits were lower than the prior year, the industry still had a good year in 2013 despite costly legal settlements and higher…

Read this link– Overstock false advertising

Online shopping has changed the existence of mall shopping for most of us, especially at Christmas. For those of us who don’t care if we buy “off season”, please buyer beware and just read moneytalksnews.com about Overstock being fined for false advertising. Basically, Overstock falsely relayed the original price of an item to make it seem like the buyer was saving more than she was. Okay. They all may or may not do this. But it isn’t fair. I’d be happy if the savings was $1.00. It’s the principal. Overstock is still saving the buyer money, did the web company have to inflate the price?

… During relaxed attention, a problem or challenge is taking up space in your brain, but it isn’t on the front burner. Relaxed attention lies somewhere between meditation, where you completely clear your mind, and the laser-like focus you apply when tackling a tough math problem. Our brains can make cognitive leaps when we’re not completely obsessed with a challenge, which is why good ideas sometimes come to us when we’re in the shower or talking a walk or on a long drive.

Unfortunately, in both the UK and US education systems, since the late 1980s, the trend has been away from unstructured play and time studying the arts—both prime times for switching gears into relaxed cognition—and toward more structured, standardized National Curriculums. According to the report, this focus on finding the single right answer for the test instead of exploring many alternate solutions has resulted in “a significant decline in creative thinking scores in US schools. Using the Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking (TTCT), and a sample of 272,599 pupils (kindergarten to fourth grade), evidence suggests that the decline is steady and persistent [affecting] teachers’ and pupils’ ability to think creatively, imaginatively and flexibly.”

While we can’t turn our entire education system around overnight, there are a few things you and your school-age children can do to enhance your creative capacity through engaging relaxed attention:

 

+ Walk away from the problem, literally. As the philosopher-poet Friedrich Nietsche once said, “All truly great thoughts are conceived by walking.” Maybe it’s the increased blood flow from exercising or the emotional distance gained by walking away from a problem, whatever it is, walking works.

Carry a notebook with you at all times, even by your bedside. You never know when good ideas will come. Having something nearby to jot them down ensures they won’t be forgotten along the way.

Turn your “snooze button” into a “muse button.” Use those few minutes of half-consciousness every morning to let your mind wander over problems you’ve been wrestling with during waking hours. With some practice, you’ll start discovering fresh insights before your first cup of coffee.

What is going on with young Hollywood?

Selena Gomez announced that she was going into Rehab.

Let’s review: Demi Lovato, Amanda Bynes, Lindsay Lohan, Zac Efron. What is going on? There are at least 100 or so young actors who would kill to be where they are! We don’t know if they would abuse it or not, but jeez these stars have been given such a gift! I just don’t get it. Were they pushed too hard too soon? Demi and Selena were on Barney. Zac was adorable in High School Musical. Amanda was the new Lucille Ball. Lindsey had her pick of young film projects.

The red carpets, the fans, the money? 

The one thing the young stars have in common is that they have all been in some treatment. So now we know. All that glitters is not gold. There is a dark side.  The question is “Can you handle it?”
